What I love most about teaching:

I love providing students with learning experiences outside the textbook and hearing them express surprise at how much fun it was.

My favorite moment in teaching:

After working for many weeks with a fifth grade student to improve math scores, he came in one morning and said, “I finally got it. I can do the math once I practice, but when we move on to something new I forget the old stuff.” We discussed how this happens to many learners, and that it is good to know how one learns. That seemed to cement things for him and he began to value himself and his work. He grew as a learner and exceeded beyond his abilities.
